Gluten Free Food Truck Options in ABQ

Who doesn’t love a food truck? Being celiac or gluten free can make it hard to enjoy food trucks and many people are too timid to ask, that’s what I’m here for! I have reached out to all these trucks in Albuquerque at one point, but keep in mind that menus change so please confirm information. I do notice some food truck menus can change month-to-month, which means you really do need to re-verify.

Food truckers of ABQ: We appreciate your accommodation and care for us! Here are some tips and ways you can accomodate us if you wish to. We understand when you can’t, but we love when you do because then we get to support your business and enjoy your delicious food! I’m happy to answer any questions you have about ingredients or how to make items gluten free. You can read up on gluten here. Now onto the tips:

  1. Please familiarize yourself with gluten. We know it can be confusing. Here and Here are guides for you.
  2. When possible, get gluten free labeled items which will make it easy for you and others to know it’s gluten free.
  3. Having an allergen list can help confusion around allergens in foods. If it’s not labeled gluten free, the manufacturer may have this information. It’s important not to guess because there can be hidden gluten, such as “natural flavors” which is something made with malt (gluten) and is not required to be labeled on packaging at wheat is. Having your own allergen list can be helpful for you and customers as well.
  4. For celiacs and many other food allergies, cross contamination is a concern. This is when gluten free foods are cooked on the same surfaces, or have any cross contact with gluten. This can be from a griddle or other cooking surfaces, cutting boards and prep areas, utensils, fryers, toasters and more. Many trucks have offered to cook gluten free items on a clean pan to avoid griddle cross contamination. This is awesome!

Again, we totally understand if this isn’t practical for you but appreciate your efforts if it is. I will happily support your business if precautions are taken (and will post about it too!)

Burrito Baby: They confirmed they have many celiac customers and for that reason was ready with answers! The meat is cooked separately so that is safe for your nachos and burrito bowls. The chips are packaged and gluten free as is their nacho sauce. I’ve eaten nachos and frito pie here. Here is their menu.

Craft Q: All meats are gf. I’m unsure about cross contamination on griddle with any breaded items. I have eaten here but don’t recall if I asked this.

Kamikaze: They have less options than their restaurant I’m told but they do have a dedicated fryer.

NM cultura grub: They didn’t know about gluten but were very gracious with me and cooked on a separate pan and allowed me to look at labels. Fries are cooked in own fryer but couldn’t figure out quickly if they were gluten free (shamrock brand, may need to reach out). I got great tacos and street corn.

Mi Taco Su Taco: They do use the same surfaces for quesadillas but report they can use a clean pan to prep foods to avoid cross contamination.

Mobiyaki: Reports some gluten free options. Check their socials for locations.

Munchie Truck: They have a dedicated fryer for fries and some other gluten free stuff. Their chile is gluten free. They also purchase from the Bakehouse Off the Wheaten Path!

Rio Tacos: All tacos are gluten free, but they do serve burritos and the flour tortillas are warmed in same griddle so there is a likelihood of cross contamination. He opened up a restaurant and I haven’t been able to get a response on if we can eat there safely.

Stuffed Lust: Caters to many different dietary restrictions and has a dedicated fryer and grill for gluten free.

Tantrum BBQ: All meats, sauces and sides are gluten free except the Mac which they can do gluten free at request.

Wacky Waffles: Based in Gallup but they do about 1 event every month in ABQ. All their fried food is gluten free/celiac safe: fried avocado, pickles, chicken nuggets, and veggie fried. They use cornstarch instead of flour.

Wow Wow Lemonade: Aside from lemonade and avocado toasts (not gluten free), they serve pitaya bowls with certified gluten free oats.

Yearling pupuseria: In speaking to them, it sounds like all pupusas should be gf but if vegetarian check on vegetarian meats. They do have sandwiches and I’m not sure if they go on grill at all.

2 Guys 1 Grill: This food truck frequents the breweries in Albuquerque. The dad and son inside weren’t knowledgeable about gluten but kindly answered by questions and looked at labels/ingredients for me. Per them, the fryer is strictly used for the fries and nachos. The chips were reported to be corn and he checked the ingredients on the fries and they appeared to contain no gluten. I didn’t ask about the melty cheese used on the fries, that may be worth double checking! Not all melty nacho cheese is gluten free.

The list will continue to grow! If you have a recommendation or correction, please reach out via direct message on Instagram or email me glutenfreeandglorious@gmail.com
