Gluten Free Hot Sauce Reviews

If you are new here, Welcome! My name is Emily, I’m gluten free and I love all things spicy. I have been toying with a hot sauce blog for a long time because we just love hot sauce in my house! I’m by no means a sommelier of hot sauces, but I do love to use and try them! I have tried many hot sauces, unfortunately I lost many when I moved from Los Angeles to New Mexico last year in 2021. This blog may take some time, but I will be reviewing various hot sauces as I try them and listing them in alphabetical order. I will build up on this blog as time goes on.

El Yucateco: Their Salsa Picante de Chile Habanero Red and Green sauce I found several years ago in an airport of all places.  Their website recommends you to eat the red with seafood or even a bloody Mary. Use the green to spice up your guac, salad or meat. Me? I dumped both over my nachos. At 5,790 Scoville Units of Heat this definitely had a kick to it and I loved the burn!

Louisiana hot sauce: It’s a milder hot sauce with that yummy flavor, without being overwhelming. It tastes pretty good on chili. No scoville is listed on their website. They call it a “straightforward hot sauce” and they are right! It’s a vinegar base with different flavors available such as chipotle, habanero and roasted garlic. I would love to try the chipotle. I must confess…. I prefer Crystal.

Scorpion Pepper Hot Sauce: With a Scoville of (SHU) 1,500,000 – 1,750,000 the warning is no joke! This is definitely one to do little drops on your food with because a little goes a long way. The heat is addictive. This was also seen on Hot Ones.

Sriracha: My go-to hot sauce, I put this on everything! My favorite thing to put it on… my bagel and cream cheese. You may call it a weird food combination but I call the perfect combination of creamy and spicy. With a scoville of 2,200 it scores about in the middle of popular hot sauces. I like Sriracha so much I did it for a costume.. twice! It’s commonly used in Asian cuisine and is amazing mixed with mayonaise.

Yellow Bird: Time to spice up your life! Yellow bird foods makes a variety of hot sauces that are 100% organic! My favorite or the main is the Habanero Condiment, though I’m not sure if I’ve tried them all. We have added some to homemade queso, breakfast tacos and creamy gluten free mac and cheese! With a scoville of 15,580, it’s got some excellent heat and just a bit of sweet, if that is what you are in to. If you like some spicy, but not too much heat then try the Serrano condiment. The taste is fresh with a more noticeable sweetness. The scoville ranges 1,600-6,160. Check out Yellow Bird for their other condiment flavors.
