Hatch Chile

As a New Mexican, Hatch chile is a big part of my life and my cooking, so it’s no wonder my first grocery post is entirely dedicated to it! In the fall you can find chile roasting outside local grocery stores and you can always ship it directly from New Mexico. I miss the smell of roasting chile.

I have lived in Los Angeles for over 10 years so you find other ways to get your green chile fix. Here are Hatch items I always have on hand.

1) Diced Hatch Chile Cans: You have probably seen these in most average grocery stores. I add these to my enchiladas, nachos, quiche and more. Most stores carry mild and sometimes medium. I prefer the hot which I can usually only find on Amazon.

2) Hatch Enchilada Sauce: This is my go-to for most enchilada recipes but I also use it for my crockpot posole recipe, which is delicious! My husband loves to add this to his eggs and homemade burritos.

3) Bueno Chopped Green Chile: I typically find this frozen at Albertsons and I always get some when I’m in the New Mexican airport. Check your instacart to see where you can get it. This is fresher than the cans and usually a bit spicier. They also have a red chile sauce container which is amazing.

4) 505 Green chile: You can find these jars at many Costco’s, Whole foods and a few other stores. Highly recommend!

5) Young Guns: These guys have 32ox jugs of red and green that is top notch. These are great to get both in New Mexico and out. A jug like this can go fast! Try putting it in crab dip. This brand has levels of heat, all the way to very hot

If you haven’t cooked with hatch I hope you will start. Looking for ideas? Try this red chile enchilada casserole
