Fried fish? Yes please! I never fry things, and when I do it's in the air fryer. I must say, this was a treat! It's pretty simple and only slightly messy. I grabbed 4 tilapia fillets, fresh from my grocery store. Then I set up my bowls: gluten free flour (cup 4 cup), gluten free panko, and 2 eggs slightly beaten. I used small paper bowls, but I recommend using larger bowls because it'll be easier to dunk the whole tilapia in at once than in sections like I did. Before I used my set up station, I seasoned both sides of my tilapia with kosher salt, pepper and the chili seasoning blend from Trader Joe's. If you don't have the chili seasoning blend, just use some chili powder, cumin, garlic and oregano. Then I drenched the tilapia in the gluten free flour, then the egg mixture, and last the breadcrumbs.
Get a large pan (if you want to cook them all at once) and our about 1/4 inch of oil and put the heat on medium. Place the tilapia in the pan, it should sizzle when you put them in, and heat for 2-3 minutes on each side. When they were done cooking, place them on a plate with a paper towel to drain.
I served mine with lemon slices, aioli sauce and a side of steamed broccoli. If you are looking for an aioli sauce recipe, try this one from my crockpot chicken sliders recipe. It is my go-to. Absolutely delicious!
Set up your station: 1 bowl with gluten free flour 1 bowl with gluten free panko, 1 bowl with 2 eggs slightly beaten and 4 tilapia fillets.
Add oil to a large sauce pan and turn on medium heat.
Season each side of the tilapias with salt, pepper and chili blend. Drench each tilapia in the flour, egg mixture, panko then on a plate.
When the oil is heated, add the tilapia to the pan, it should sizzle, make sure there is space in between each tilapia or or it one at a time with a smaller sauce pan.
When the tilapia are done cooking, put them on plates with paper towel to drain and let them sit for a few minutes.
Serve with steamed broccoli, lemon, garlic aioli or your choice of dipping sauce.
